    Volunteer abroad, Gap year in Stockholm

    14/05/2008

    If you’re looking to do some volunteer work in Stockholm – for example in organisations such as Amnesty International, Oxfam International, Greenpeace, the Red Cross or the World Wildlife Fund – you can try writing letters/emails or calling the group(s) you’re interested in and ask them if they’re taking on volunteers. It’s a good idea to send your CV with your introduction letter/email and explain what type of volunteer work you’re looking for. There may be a formal application form or procedure to follow. The following website lists volunteering opportunities in Sweden:

    IAL is the Swedish branch of Service Civil International and organises peace and conservation camps. They co-ordinate both short and long term voluntary projects and anyone can participate, regardless of age, nationality or gender. Their principle is that living and working with people from different backgrounds helps dissolve prejudices and stereotypes and encourages a spirit of mutual respect and understanding, ultimately making the world a more peaceful and co-operative place.
    IAL is based at Tegelviksgatan 40, 116 41 Stockholm, Sweden;
    011-46-8-643-08-89;
    fax. 011-46-8-641-8188;
    info@ial.nu

    You must apply in your own country however. Application information is available from their website:

    The Youth in Action Programme of the European Union is aimed at promoting active citizenship, developing solidarity and tolerance, and fostering mutual understanding between young people from different European countries. Consult their website for more information:
